The round table discussion is part of Tenso’s project 14-18 : from poetry to music. In the years 2014-2018, new choral repertoire will be created that will reflect on the First World War. Since hardly any music was written for (chamber) choir in the years 1914-1918, Tenso has embarked on a project where texts and poetry dating from that period will get a new life in newly written choral music. Poetry lovers contribute poems and texts via an internet platform; young and established composers will be commissioned to write music to these texts. The music will be performed by the most prominent choirs in concert halls and at festivals all over Europe.

The discussion in Rīga will touch on this topic, but is in no way restricted to it. We want to discuss, in general and in depth, how the choice of text influences the composition process, how close a composer can or should stay to the original text, where the responsibility of the performers lies in bringing the text across the footlight, and more. You are welcome to contribute !
