session 2: the music

What music do we choose for projects that bring together amateur and professional singers? How can we find innovative ways to approach contemporary repertoire? And, can we adapt music to our purposes?

Oscar Strasnoy

Oscar Strasnoy (1970, Buenos Aires ARG) is a composer, conductor and pianist. Oscar Strasnoy was born in Buenos Aires and studied piano, conducting and composition there before moving to Paris where he studied at the Conservatoire de Paris (with Guy Reibel, Michaël Levinas and Gérard Grisey), where he won in 1996 a Premier Prix à l’Unanimité (first prize), and the Hochschule für Musik, Frankfurt (with Hans Zender).

In 2012, his work Odyssee for orchestra, chamber choir and 200 amateur singers was premiered at Festival Ile de France. This weekend, it will be performed in Marseille.

Sylvaince Davené

Sylvaine Davené (FR) is a member of choeur de chambre accentus and active as coach in the ateliers organized by erda|accentus for schools, amateur choirs and others. She was trained by Guy Reibel to work with jeux vocaux as a starting point for creating compositions and as an entrance to performing “difficult” contemporary music.
